Continuity of Learning Plan – Division 9 Mr. Jones

This plan is in case of a functional closure of Heritage.  Meaning the school has closed to all but the essential workers children and most students are doing online learning.

Math:  Prodigy!  I can provide short instructional videos to introduce new concepts and students can play Prodigy to practice the concepts. This is probably the easiest platform for everyone because the students are already familiar with it.

  • It is fun and engaging for the students.

  • It is relatively independent, meaning parents don’t need to do too much.

  • I can set the assignments, monitor and see the questions they are doing and where they are struggling. This can inform my instruction.

  • I can use it for assessments and reporting.

Each week I intend to choose the curricular learning, and make a short instructional video to help guide the students.  They then spend 15-30 minutes per day on Prodigy practicing and learning on the assignment I have set out.

Reading: RAZ Kids is a site that we have a paid subscription to for the year.  It has many capabilities that I have yet to figure out, but right now it provides leveled reading for each student.

  • I have set the levels and I recently updated them for each individual student.

  • I can monitor their comprehension and adjust levels from home.

  • It provides students with a choice of reading material at their level and is therefore more likely to be successful for them.

In addition to the RAZ kids online leveled reading, students could be reading for an additional 10-15 minutes per school day.  If possible, have them read to a sibling, caregiver, or even a pet.

Writing: Weekly writing assignments will be posted.
